Each time a major honors show draws close, one notices a clamor for the addition additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of fans with niche passions.
A fellow writer previously argued for a horror game category. That would rule. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.
The Representation Problem
Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
- A different innovative game was excluded that year
- A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
- Just some logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often small games, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles worldwide and have been for an extended period.
The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
